The Dune Collection: Echo
‘Echo’ is the latest in the Dune collection of sand vessels from Gareth Neal Ltd.
The Dune series seeks to evoke abstraction on historical time frames whilst questioning and pursuing the modern world of making in sand. The vessels capture the act of digital manipulation in physical space. The fluid, yet solid substrate allows for endless configurations and engages the viewer as it is embedded in our natural instinct to touch and play with this tactile material.
‘I have always found repetition very beautiful and 3d printing allows for perfect iterations with incremental changes. Echo slowly gains height to create visual abstraction and movement on the notion of a single pot. Echo’s form and materiality evokes thoughts of past civilisations and ancient relics. Due to the technology used to create it, the vessel is also firmly rooted in the present day. The digital method of making enables the viewer to have glimpses of the intersection of pot within pot as each nestles together to become one.’ - Gareth
