Of Cuts Chairs II

Two new pieces created for FOG Art & Design Fair, San Francisco 2025.

This series combines hand-crafting and digital manufacturing, united by the mission to reduce waste wood within the timber industry. Typically considered ‘low grade’ timber, despite taking 100’s or years to grow and having sequestered many tons of carbon in their lifetime. A series of cuts are digitally designed and milled, making features out of the spilts, gnarly knots and irregularities. Painstakingly sanded to a high sheen and finished with a light coat of oil. Transforming this typically overlooked material into something splendid to behold.

These sculptural chairs celebrate the beauty of imperfection, with limited intervention and processing, retaining the lifelong story told through the material surface.
